This Privacy Policy explains what information PsychTruths (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit psychtruths.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].

1. Who we are

PsychTruths is an educational website about psychology, mental health and relationships. We are the data controller for personal information collected through this website. Contact: [email protected].

Our articles are for general information only and are not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. We never ask you to share health information with us, and we don’t use what you read here to profile your health.

2. Information we collect

  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address, the date you subscribed, and your interaction with our emails (for example, whether an email was opened or a link clicked).

  • Usage data (with your consent where required): pages viewed, time on page, how you arrived at the site, approximate location (city or country level), device type, browser and operating system.
  • Technical and security data: IP address, request logs and browser information processed by our hosting and security providers to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

3. How we use your information and our legal bases

  • To send the newsletter you asked for, based on your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
  • To understand how the site is used and improve our content, through analytics, based on your consent where the law requires it.
  • To publish and moderate comments, and to detect spam, based on our legitimate interest in running a public discussion safely.

6. Advertising

We may show advertising on PsychTruths in the future, for example through Google AdSense. If we do, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. You will be asked for consent before personalized advertising cookies are used where the law requires it.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from many other vendors at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.com (UK/EU). We will update this policy to name any advertising partners before ads go live.

7. How long we keep your information

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, after which your address is kept only on a suppression list so we don’t email you again.
  • Comments: as long as the comment is published. Spam and rejected comments are deleted.
  • Emails you send us: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and no longer than 2 years.
  • Analytics data: no longer than 14 months, after which Google Analytics deletes user-level data.
  • Server and security logs: typically a few days to a few weeks, according to our providers’ settings.

8. International transfers

Some of our providers, including Google and Cloudflare, process data in the United States and other countries outside the UK and EU. Where this happens, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US / UK-US Data Privacy Framework.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • have your information deleted;
  • object to or restrict how we use it;
  • receive a copy of your information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time (for example, unsubscribing or changing your cookie settings), without affecting processing that already took place.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. If you are in the UK, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). If you are in the EU, you can contact your local data-protection authority.

US residents

Residents of California and other US states with privacy laws may have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion or correction, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information. If we introduce personalized advertising, you can opt out through the cookie banner, and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as an opt-out request. We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

10. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and protected by Cloudflare. We limit access to personal information to what is needed to run the site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

11. Children

PsychTruths is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Links to other websites

Our articles link to research, organizations and other websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.
